History of The Mural
Back To The Beginning
In 1971 a group of young people from Scott City painted the mural on the side of a wall for all to see the message “JESUS DIED FOR YOU TOO”.It was a huge undertaking for youth and adults associated with the Eisleben Lutheran Church youth group to make this dream a reality! The mural was so large it could not be ignored and became a source of blessing and strength to many in the community. It has been reported that several throughout the five decades have been so touched by the sign that they came to Christ and some even went into ministry seeing this as a “sign” to them.
Let’s Do A Mural…
“It all began in the summer of ’71. The “genesis” for this project was Pastor Ardle Page from Eisleben Lutheran Church. Pastor Page was famous for bouncing ideas off the youth group. I think he most likely mentioned it to Doug Ross first and then the rest of us. As teenagers I think we sat around in a group as he explained his idea to us and quite possibly there was some eye-rolling. Ok, there definitely was eye-rolling. Nevertheless, Pastor Page continued his quest for the painting of the mural. It was the summer and other than mowing yards to make money most of us had the spare time to participate. Since I’m old now I’ll forget someone who was involved in the project, but this is who I remember: Doug Ross, Chuck Klughart, Loraine Pettit, Darlene Hagan, Linda Koch, Denise Koch, Tom (who I don’t have a last name for, he was the person who drew the outline of the mural), Tim Roth, and Pastor Page.*As I mentioned, if I forgot someone – I am so sorry. The building where the origin mural was painted, was owned by the Harmons from Harmon Furniture and Appliance. They donated the space to do the mural…”
